Eddie Kowalczyk, Montini show they can play smashmouth football, run past Geneseo — Frankfort Schools news

Saturday’s Class 4A first-round football playoff game between Geneseo and Montini wasn’t a typical No. 8 seed vs. No. 9 seed game. It was a matchup between two schools with plenty of postseason success. The visiting Maple Leafs have 10 title-game appearances, including three championships in 3A and another in 4A. Conversely, the host Broncos are an eight-time state champion with 11 title game appearances overall.Geneseo plays an old-school type of football with plenty of power running that features counter and dive plays. But it was usually pass-heavy Montini that showed it can play smashmouth football as well, rushing for 228 yards in a 35-12 victory.“[Geneseo] is an excellent team, lot of credit goes to them,” Montini coach Mike Bukovsky said. “It was, quite frankly, not a good first-round draw for us. They had a good game plan, but luckily for us, our offense has some good athletes and we were able to move the football and do some great things.”Montini (8-2) took the opening kickoff
